Full Name: Cornelius(Cees)Fasseur

Prof. Dr. Cornelius (Cees) Fasseur is a member of the IIGEP. Professor Fasseur was a judge in the Court of Appeal in Amsterdam (2001-2006) and worked in the Dutch Ministry of Justice in The Hague as a legal counselor for many years (1965-1986 and 1990-1993). His specialization was criminal, procedural, police and constitutional law. He was involved in drafting important parts of Dutch legislation in this field, in particular the Code of Dutch Criminal Law and the Code of Dutch Criminal Procedural Law. He was also a professor at the University of Leiden in Southeast Asian History (1986-2001) and a professor extraordinarius in history at the same university (1977-1986).

Professor Fasseur was born in 1938 in Indonesia. He studied at Leiden University and obtained his Bachelor of Laws in 1963 and his Bachelor of History in 1965. He lives in The Hague. He held many academic positions and wrote about seven books and numerous articles, most of them in the field of history. He is a member of the Dutch Royal Academy of Sciences. He is married to Josine C. van Santen, vice-president in the Court of Appeal in The Hague.
